Learn why Excel can be corrupt - Repair corrupted Excel

There are many possible errors in Excel. It is a complicated program and as such there are many things that can go wrong. Not all errors mean your Excel is corrupt. Most have an easy solution. I am including here some of the most common errors, why they happen and how to solve them. You will learn how to repair corrupt Excel files specifically by following the previous link.

Common Excel errors:

Error:

"Can't find project or library" - You are trying to execute a macro with an incorrect location for its excllink.xla.

Solution:

Click OK to close the error box, when you do that the references window will open. Remove the check mark from the MISSING: excllink.xla. Find it in its correct location, check that box instead in the references window then click on OK.

Error:

"Error in formula" - An incorrect formula entry such as entering a space between name and parenthesis, or incorrect parenthesis in general.

Solution:

Check the error manually by making sure the formula is typed correctly.

Error:

"MATLAB matrix cells contain zeros (0)." - Corresponding cells in the worksheet are empty.

Solution:

These types of cells can only contain numeric or string data. If this is not the case simply change it.

Errors:

"Microsoft Excel unable to read file" - "This file is not in a recognizable format" - "EXCEL.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows" These errors (and many others) could mean that your Excel file is corrupt.

Solution:

Find a tool that will repair corrupt Excel files and use it to restore it without the corruption.
